Movie Night Reflection

Last week, we gathered in the church hall for a special movie night featuring Carlo Acutis: Roadmap to Reality. It was a wonderful evening that brought together parishioners, students, families, and friends.

The evening began with the Saturday evening Mass, after which everyone made their way to the hall for dinner. Tables quickly filled as people shared a meal and caught up with one another before the movie began. It was a lively and welcoming atmosphere, with plenty of conversation and laughter as people settled in for the night.

The documentary tells the story of “the millennial saint,” Carlo, who died in 2006 at the age of fifteen, had a remarkable combination of technical skill and deep faith. From a young age he loved attending Mass and developed a particular devotion to the Eucharist. Using his computer talents, he created online exhibitions documenting Eucharistic miracles around the world, hoping to help others discover the beauty of the faith.

Roadmap to Reality is more than a biography. The film also reflects on the challenges of living in a world increasingly shaped by smartphones and social media. Through interviews with Carlo’s family and clergy, and by following a group of teenagers on a pilgrimage to visit Carlo’s tomb, the documentary explores the human desire for real connection, meaning, and faith in an age often dominated by screens.

Carlo’s story offers a hopeful message. His life shows how modern technology can be used in service of something greater—helping people encounter truth, community, and God.

Watching the film together gave our parish community a chance not only to learn about the life of this remarkable young witness to the faith, but also to reflect on the questions the film raises about how we live, connect with others, and seek what truly matters.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the evening such a success, and to those who helped prepare the dinner and organize the event. It was a wonderful night of fellowship, reflection, and community.
