Feast of St. Joseph — 19 March
On March 19, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As the foster father of Jesus and husband of Mary, St. Joseph is a powerful example of quiet strength, faithful obedience, and steady, protective love.

The Gospels describe Joseph as a “just man,” a carpenter from Nazareth who lived a life of humble service. When he learned of Mary’s pregnancy, he chose to trust in God’s plan, welcoming her into his home despite the uncertainty and risk. Joseph continued to trust in God by leaving everything behind to go to Egypt, and again by settling back in Nazareth to make a home for his family. In the day-to-day work of providing and caring for Mary and Jesus, he shows us the quiet dignity of an ordinary life lived with love and faithfulness.
Joseph speaks no recorded words in Scripture, but actions speak clearly. He listens, he trusts, and he acts. Because of this, the Church has long recognized him as a protector and guide. In 1870, he was named Patron of the Universal Church, and he is also honoured as the patron of the Church in Canada. Just as he once cared for the Holy Family, we trust that he continues to watch over the Church today.
St. Joseph is also known as the patron of workers. As a carpenter, he provided for his family through honest labour, reminding us that our work—whatever it may be—can be a way of participating in God’s creation and caring for those entrusted to us.
In a special way, we also give thanks for the presence and witness of the Sisters of St. Joseph, whose faithful service has touched and inspired so many lives in our parish over the years. Their faithful dedication reflects the same spirit we see in St. Joseph.
A well-known prayer to St. Joseph begins: “To you, Blessed St. Joseph, we have recourse in our tribulations…”
It is a simple reminder that we can turn to him with confidence, trusting in his care and intercession.
As we celebrate his feast, may the example of St. Joseph encourage us to live with greater faith, to care for one another generously, and to be attentive to God’s call in the ordinary moments of our lives.
Happy Feast of St. Joseph to our parish community.
