Canadian Martyrs Elementary Confirmation Mass

On May 23, the Grade 7 students of Canadian Martyrs School received the Sacrament of Confirmation during a beautiful Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Joseph Dabrowski, with Bishop Crosby also assisting in a rare two-bishop celebration.

In Confirmation, the baptized are strengthened by the gift of the Holy Spirit and more fully united to Christ and His Church (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1285). Rooted in the grace of Pentecost and the laying on of hands handed down from the apostles, the sacrament calls Christians to live and witness to their faith with courage and joy (CCC 1288; Acts 2:1–4).

In his homily, Bishop Dabrowski encouraged the students to pray for and rely upon the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord (CCC 1831). He reminded them that the Holy Spirit is at work not only in moments of prayer, but also in daily life through the fruits of the Spirit: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity (CCC 1832).

Bishop Dabrowski also thanked parents and sponsors for their continued support and encouragement in the faith. He reminded the students that Confirmation is not the end of their journey, but a deeper call to live as disciples of Jesus Christ within the community of the Church.

Please keep our newly confirmed students in your prayers, that the Holy Spirit may continue to guide and strengthen them in faith, hope, and love.
