Congratulations to the Married Couples of our Parish Celebrating Milestone Anniversaries
On May 31, several couples from our parish joined hundreds of others from across the Diocese of Hamilton at the annual Wedding Anniversary Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King. This joyful diocesan celebration honours couples celebrating milestone anniversaries of 25, 40, 50, 60, and more than 60 years of marriage, and includes a renewal of marriage vows before God and the Church.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the couples from our parish who participated this year. Their witness of faithful, lifelong love is a blessing to our community and an inspiration to younger generations.
During Mass, Bishop Joseph Dabrowski reflected on the remarkable witness offered by the more than 350 couples gathered from every region of the diocese, representing more than 15,000 years of married life. He reminded those present that the celebration is about much more than longevity: it is a celebration of love, fidelity, sacrifice, forgiveness, and God's grace at work through the years.
Parishioners Joy and Gary Warner, pictured here with Bishop Dabrowski, celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in July.
Drawing on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, Bishop Dabrowski spoke of marriage as a living image of God's love. Christian marriage is not simply a contract or legal arrangement; it is a sacrament—a covenant strengthened by grace and made visible in the faithful love of husband and wife. Through their commitment, spouses become witnesses to Christ's love in the world (CCC 1601, 1638).
The bishop also highlighted the lessons learned through married life: patience, forgiveness, self-sacrifice, and the willingness to begin again after difficulties. Lasting marriages are not built by perfect people, but by those who make the daily choice to love, forgive, and remain faithful—with Christ's help.
The Church places great importance on marriage because strong families are the foundation of community. For this reason, the family is often called the "domestic Church"—the place where faith is first learned, prayed, and lived (Familiaris Consortio, 21, 49). Families nurture future vocations, strengthen parishes, and pass the faith from one generation to the next.
We are grateful for the many married couples in our parish whose witness enriches our community. Whether celebrating a recent anniversary or many decades together, they remind us that faithful love is possible, that commitment bears fruit, and that God's grace is present in the ordinary and extraordinary moments of family life.
Congratulations once again to all who celebrated anniversary milestones this year. May the Lord continue to bless your marriages and families with joy, peace, and enduring love. As we give thanks for the gift of marriage, may all of our families continue to grow together in faith, prayer, and charity.
