Please join us for our community potluck on Tuesday, October 28, when we will take time to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of Sr. Eileen Schuller, long-time member of Canadian Martyrs and McMaster Chaplaincy, as she marks her 60th Jubilee as an Ursuline Sister of Chatham. Sister Eileen entered the Ursulines in Edmonton, where her family lived, and after completing her formation as a Sister, began her academic studies and never looked back. Her studies included a Doctorate from Harvard in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. Sr. Eileen is one of the world’s preeminent scholars in the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Sr. Eileen is a born teacher, not only imparting well-researched knowledge but always taking a personal interest in her students. She has been associated with Canadian Martyrs and ministry with university students since her appointment as a professor at McMaster University in 1990.

She has generously shared her knowledge, serving as a wonderful resource for our faith community. She has given amazing presentations to the Hospitality Team, Lectors, RCIA, and Chaplaincy, grounding them in a biblical foundation in a way that brings it alive. We are privileged to have her as a member of this community, and we offer our congratulations and all God’s blessings as she marks this special milestone. We look forward to celebrating with her at the potluck, and hope you can join us to congratulate Sr. Eileen in person.

University students are invited to join Fr. Gregory for "Going Deeper: Living the Spiritual Life," a series designed to help deepen your faith and spiritual journey. This takes place once a month on a Thursday evening during the Fall and Winter semesters.

October 30:  Faith worth sharing – a gift, not an argument 

Talking about faith can feel awkward - like you’re either saying too much or not enough. This session is for students who want to share what matters most in a way that feels real, kind, and natural. We’ll explore:

• How to share your faith without oversharing or turning people off

• Whether every conversation about faith should look the same

• The core truths that shape what we believe and how we live

Expect honest conversation, practical tips, and a safe space to ask questions. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and maybe a friend.

On the evening of All Souls Day, before Mass, students from the Chaplaincy will be inviting those passing by the church to come in and light a candle for a loved one who has died, write an intention in the book of remembrance, or just spend time with Christ through adoration. November 27: The Theology of the Body

Teresa Hartnett, director of Family Ministry with the Diocese of Hamilton, will join us for the November Going Deeper, exploring Saint Pope John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” reflections on love, sexuality and the human person. He worked on his ‘Theology of the Body’ over many years and determined that there is a “Law of the Gift,” a law of self-giving, built into the very structure of our humanity. Theology of the body explains that human biology and physicality are profoundly relevant to our unique dignity as human persons made in the image and likeness of God. Saint Pope John Paul II’s reflections remind us of how we are called to live to find true peace and joy in our lives.

Bambinelli Sunday, celebrated on the Third Sunday of Advent, is a tradition started by Pope St. John Paul II. Families bring the Baby Jesus (Bambinelli), from their home Nativity sets to church for a special blessing. It’s a way to invite God’s grace into your homes, and it reminds us that Christ is at the heart of Christmas.

At all the Masses this weekend, we’ll celebrate this beautiful tradition at Canadian Martyrs. As you take your Bambinelli home and place them in the Nativity scene, you are symbolically preparing your heart and home for the arrival of Christ at Christmas. Let’s celebrate together, deepening our Advent journey with this cherished tradition!

Join us for Coffee Sunday, happening immediately after Mass! This will be our last Coffee Sunday until next September!

These gatherings are a wonderful opportunity to connect, share stories, and strengthen the bonds of our faith community.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the CWL (Catholic Women’s League) for their dedication in organizing and running these events. They’ve created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. We also gratefully welcome donations of light refreshments and a little help with serving, in support of our wonderful CWL.
