Alleluia! As St. Augustine noted, we are an Easter people, and alleluia is our song. The Word of God initiates us and sustains us in being an Easter people by hearing the story of our redemption. The Easter season gives us an opportunity to reflect upon the mystery of Jesus as savior of the world, a mystery that forms us into his disciples of the resurrection.

Please join us this Easter season as we delve more deeply into this saving story in an Easter Bible Study. We will pray with, reflect upon, and learn from the Sunday lectionary texts Fridays at 10am in the Papal Suite of the Saint Kateri Student Centre. We will begin on April 12 and end on May 17. The lectionary texts will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own Bible if you have one.

So celebrate this Easter by coming to join us in our study of the Bible, the saving story of Jesus the Lord!

Grad & Commissioning Mass

  • Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church & Chaplaincy (map)

On Sunday, April 14 as part of the 11:30 am Mass, Fr. Gregory will offer a Blessing and Commissioning for members of our university chaplaincy. At the Mass, next year’s student executive team will be commissioned with a special blessing, and all graduating students from our community will be blessed. This is an important time for us as a community to recognize the integral role that our students play in our faith community.

This commissioning is an acknowledgement that the students are ready to take their place in the world as faithful and responsible members of society.

The Blessing and Commissioning Mass is also an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the accomplishments of the students. It is a time to recognize the hard work and dedication that they have put in, their contributions to our faith community, and to offer our support and encouragement as they move forward.

As we commission our students out into the world, we do so with a sense of hope and optimism. We trust that they will use the gifts of faith that they have received here to make a positive difference in the world, and to be a source of God’s light and love wherever they go.

Lenten Mission: Forgiveness (night 3)

  • Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church & Chaplaincy (map)

Join us on a transformative journey this Lenten season!

Lenten Mission Schedule:

  • March 12, 2024, Mass @ 5:15 PM

  • March 13, 2024, Mass @ 7:00 PM

  • March 14, 2024, Mass @ 7:00 PM

Theme: Forgiveness

Lent invites us to come home to God, seeking healing and forgiveness. Don't miss this chance to draw closer to our loving God. The Eucharist is where we encounter the fullness of God's love.

Speaker: Fr. Hanh Van Tran, OMI

Topic:

The Joy of Forgiveness

Let's embark on this Lenten Mission together, growing in faith, love, and forgiveness.

  • Fr. Hanh Van Tran, OMI, born on July 15, 1969, in Phuoc Binh, Viet Nam, faced challenges growing up in a war-torn and famine-stricken country. His parents, Tran Van Ho and Nguyen Thi Phan, took a brave step during the crisis, putting most of their 11 children on a boat in the hope of securing refugee status in another country. Tragically, the journey claimed the lives of a sister and a brother.

After a year in a refugee camp, they were granted refugee status in Canada. In 1981, Hanh and his seven brothers arrived in Kapuskasing, Ontario, facing the complexities of adapting to a new language, culture, and climate. Hanh pursued studies at Sir Sanford Fleming College, earning a diploma in Career Counseling. Later, he attained a B.A. in Philosophy from the Dominican College in Ottawa.

In 1997, Hanh joined the pre-novitiate in Ottawa and then the novitiate in Godfrey, Illinois. His academic journey continued at Newman Theological College, Alberta, culminating in a Master of Divinity in 2003. Fr. Hanh professed first vows in Godfrey, Illinois, in 1999, made perpetual vows as an Oblate of Mary Immaculate in Ottawa in December 2004, and was ordained to the priesthood at St. Maximilian Colby by Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, on May 20, 2005.

Please join us for Holy Hour on February 25th (prior to the 8 pm Sunday Mass) to pray for the healing of survivors and victims of sexual abuse, perpetrated by those within the Church and beyond. May these efforts support the paths of human and spiritual recovery not only for victims and survivors, but also for families and communities similarly affected.

PRAYER FOR VICTIMS OF ABUSE

Praise to you, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
source of all consolation and hope.
By your Sons’s dying and rising
he remains our light in every darkness,
our strength and every weakness. Be the refuge and guardian
of all who suffered from abuse and violence.
Comfort them and send them healing
for their wounds of body, mind, and spirit.
Rescue them from bitterness and shame
and refresh them with your love.
Heal the brokeness in all victims of abuse
and revive the spirits of all who lament this sin.
Help us to follow Jesus
in drawing good from evil, life from death.
Make us one with you in your love for justice
as we deepen our respect
for the dignity of every human life.
Giver of peace, make us one
in celebrating your praise,
both now and forever. Amen.
